Braces
Braces are an orthodontic treatment that is effective at correcting the alignment of teeth. Crooked teeth may affect your speech, oral hygiene and bite. Consult our dentists and specialist orthodontists for advice on treatment options.
Dental braces treatments usually take about 1 to 3 years to be completed. During this time, you'll have to visit your orthodontist or dentist every 4 to 6 weeks.
Improve your smile with our range of orthodontic treatments
Dental braces are used to straighten teeth that may seem too spaced out, crowded, or misaligned. Our dentists have the necessary experience to help you get the smile you desire.
Types of Braces
Metal Braces: Conventional
Out of the various solutions for teeth correction, conventional metal braces are known to be one of the most durable and effective options. Additionally, this option is more cost-effective than other orthodontic treatments available.
The metal wires of the braces are kept in place by ligatures. These are bands that you can customise every month when you change them. Pick the colours that feel most like you for a more personalised experience.
Metal Braces: Self-ligating
Without ligatures, there is less friction between the wires and brackets. They’re also a lot more convenient as you won’t get as many food particles stuck in your braces, reducing the need for frequent follow-up visits to the dentist.
Ceramic Braces
Ceramic braces have a similar function to their metal counterpart. However, since the brackets are mostly see-through, it almost looks like you’re not wearing them at all. This gives you a more aesthetic option that provides you with the same quality of results metal braces can give.
Frequently asked questions
What foods should I avoid with braces?
It's best to avoid sticky, hard, or chewy foods that can damage or dislodge the braces. Examples include chewing gum, hard candies, popcorn, nuts, and ice. Additionally, minimizing consumption of sugary foods and drinks is important to maintain oral health during braces treatment.
Can I use a mouthguard for braces?
Yes, there are mouthguards specifically designed for individuals with braces. These mouthguards accommodate the brackets and wires, providing protection for both the teeth and the orthodontic appliances.
Will braces hurt?
Most patients find the discomfort associated with braces inconvenient but manageable. You may experience some soreness during the first few days following bonding or adjusting your braces. To minimise any irritation, you may apply dental wax to the braces to keep them from rubbing against the inside of your mouth. Dental wax can be requested from our dental clinic receptionists.
Can I transfer my braces treatment to another branch?
We do not allow the transfer of ongoing cases from one clinic to another.
Will I need to wear a retainer after braces treatment?
Yes, after braces are removed, a retainer is usually prescribed to prevent teeth from shifting back to their original positions. Initially, the retainer may need to be worn full-time, and over time, the frequency may decrease to wearing it only at night.

If your child has crooked teeth, we recommend that you bring them for a consultation at around the age of 7. By this age, some of the adult teeth would have begun to erupt, and it is possible to identify unfavourable growth patterns (e.g., cross bites, deep bites). While early treatment may not necessarily prevent the need for comprehensive treatment subsequently, it may simplify future treatment or decrease the length of time spent in treatment.
