Simple vs complex scaling

A simple scaling and polishing (S$70 to S$100) is a routine six-monthly clean with light tartar. A complex one (S$110 to S$130) deals with heavier tartar or staining, or deposits below the gumline, and takes longer. The dentist grades it at the visit, so the quote reflects the state of your teeth rather than a fixed list price.

How often you need a clean

Every six months suits many people. If you have gum disease, smoke, or build up tartar quickly, the dentist may suggest coming in every three to four months. Regular cleaning keeps tartar light, which keeps each visit in the simpler band.

What CHAS pays

CHAS subsidises the consultation, the scaling and the polishing, for up to two subsidised cleaning visits a year, with the amount rising across the Orange, Blue, Merdeka Generation and Pioneer Generation tiers — see how CHAS works at our clinics. Deeper cleaning for gum disease (root planing) is priced separately — see the gum treatment cost guide.

What's included

The scaling-and-polishing fee covers the clean itself. The consultation is charged as a Simple Consultation (S$20 to S$40) and is waived for regular patients; any X-rays are billed separately. For what a routine visit involves, see the full check-up and cleaning guide.

FAQ

Dental Cleaning and Check-up pricing: frequently asked questions

How often should I get my teeth cleaned?

Every six months suits many people. If you have gum disease, smoke, or form tartar quickly, the dentist may recommend every three to four months.

How much does teeth cleaning cost in Singapore?

A simple scaling and polishing is S$70 to S$100 and a complex clean is S$110 to S$130. Add the consultation (S$20 to S$80) and an optional fluoride treatment (S$30). CHAS cardholders pay less.

Does CHAS cover scaling and polishing?

Yes. CHAS subsidises up to two scaling-and-polishing visits a year, with the amount rising across the card tiers. See our CHAS page for the current figures.

Why is my scaling quote higher than my friend's?

Scaling is graded simple or complex by how much tartar and staining there is and whether it sits below the gumline — a complex clean takes longer, so it is priced higher. Regular six-monthly cleans keep tartar light and visits in the simpler band.
